The Big Bang Fair

The Big Bang Fair inspires the next generation with hands-on activities, experiments and workshops. The UK’s biggest celebration of STEM for schools returned between 9-11 June at The NEC in Birmingham.

On the TheatreCraft stand, leading theatre venues and producers showcased the vital role that STEM skills play in creative careers. From automation and lighting to sound design, digital media and production management, theatre relies on a wide range of technical and scientific expertise.

By taking part in The Big Bang Fair, TheatreCraft helped to bridge the gap between the perception of theatre as purely artistic and the reality that the industry depends heavily on STEM knowledge and innovation. We want young people to see how the skills they develop in science, technology, engineering and maths can translate into exciting and sustainable careers behind the scenes in theatre.

There are many transferable skills between STEM subjects and the theatre industry, and we are proud to lead the movement that recognises the importance of STEM education in supporting the future of the UK theatre workforce. Our goal is to inspire young people to see theatre as a place where creativity and technical expertise come together, and where there truly is a place for everyone.
