The Royal Shakespeare Company creates world class theatre, made in Stratford-upon-Avon, and shared around the world. We perform plays by Shakespeare and his contemporaries, as well as commissioning a wide range of original work from contemporary writers. Our purpose is to ensure that Shakespeare is for everyone, unlocking the power of his plays and live performance, throughout the UK and across the world.
The RSC is more than just a theatre. It is also a national centre for teaching, training, learning and research about Shakespeare and theatre arts. Royal Shakespeare Company apprenticeships create new opportunities for people who want to take a work-based path into backstage theatre, with apprenticeships available in areas including operations, automation, learning, front of house, lighting, sound, carpentry, estates, finance, and scenic engineering. All of our apprenticeships offer the opportunity to train and earn a salary whilst studying towards a professional qualification, with all coursework time included in contracted hours. We work in partnership with a nationwide network of 12 Associate Regional Theatres across the country as well as our training providers Chichester College, Solihull College and University Centre and Stratford-upon-Avon College.
“I didn’t think I’d get this apprenticeship because I didn’t have the experience I thought I needed. But I just said: ‘I need someone to teach me from the ground up,’ and they said they were willing to give me the opportunity to learn. My apprenticeship is in automation but I’m also learning a little bit of LX, sound, video and stage. Right from the first day I was thrown in, doing the proper job and I’m just about to start my college course as well. So I’m learning and getting paid to do a really cool job.” KATE, AUTOMATION APPRENTICE
