The JMK Trust was founded in memory of James Menzies-Kitchin, a promising theatre director who died suddenly at the age of 28. Since 1997 the Trust has discovered and nurtured a new generation of visionary directors whose work and influence can be seen throughout the British theatre industry.
The JMK Award is a unique and invaluable opportunity: enabling its winner to direct a full-scale, fully resourced production with a 3-week run at a leading London venue. Previous winners include Roy Alexander Weise, Natalie Abrahami, Bijan Sheibani and Polly Findlay.
Our Regional Programme is delivered around the UK. We have set up groups for young and emerging directors at 11 regional theatres providing free access to workshops, training, mentoring and networking opportunities. Partner venues include Birmingham Rep, Sherman Cymru, Traverse Edinburgh, Leeds Playhouse and Reading Rep.
The Regional Assistant Director Bursaries enable one director from each group per year to gain practical experience by assisting on a production at their local venue.
