On 23 January we launched our first in a series of free interactive workshops for 16-25 year olds, at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. This hour long workshop, led by Master Carpenter Tom Nolan, gave participants insight into the many roles involved backstage in order to make a West End show possible. Participants were taken around the backstage areas and learned how the set works, which was particularly interesting as the Theatre Royal Haymarket currently has two shows playing: both Love’s Labour’s Lost and Much Ado About Nothing. This provided some unique insight as to how these two productions successfully run alongside one another, and how two sets are stored and used. The participants gained contacts for potential future work experience, and even gained hands on experience using the fly system.
